Trio No. 1 for oboe and trombone
Op. 7 (2015)

Based on the Baroque 'ritornello' form, Trio No. 1 uses a recurring sequence of nontraditional chords throughout the piece as a sort of 'home base'. Three similar chords stand out, outlining a motive used throughout the piece : A♭ - B♭ - A♮. Between each iteration of the ritornello are three distinct sections: the first is based on Stravinsky's Firebird, the second embodies a Latin groove, and the third contains a brief piano cadenza and a rhythmically and arithmetically intense crescendo towards the end of the piece.
